C. 'Evigsy151'^PBR TUMAINI™

Sometimes I search to buy a particular clematis that I desire for my garden. Other times, a plant will catch my eye at a nursery and I must buy it on the spot! This is how I added C. 'Evigsy151'^PBR TUMAINI™ to my garden.

There are many purple clematis but this one spoke to me. It has lovely large violet blooms accented by a complimentary candy pink bar running down the center of each sepal. The center of each flower has dark red tipped anthers. Its first bloom starts in early May and follows up with a second generous bloom usually around September. You can see in these photos that multiple flowers open at the same time and last for quite a while. As with many richly hued clematis, the older flowers of C. 'Evigsy151'^PBR TUMAINI™ lighten in color as they age. In full bloom, the vine delights the viewer with a bouquet of various shades of its lovely violet hue. Here its free-flowering nature is show as it climbs through a pine tree.

Typical of the Boulevard Series of Evison Clematis, the vine grows to 3 - 4 ft (90-120cm) and has lush green foliage. It is ideal for both patio containers, trellises or obelisks. So besides requiring minimal space and offering long flowering, this clematis also has excellent disease resistance and even resistance to deer browsing. Pruning is done in late winter or early spring down to about 6" (15cm). It is fully hardy to zone 4 in the USA and fully hardy in the UK. Here is a plant suited to both beginner and experienced gardeners due to its many desirable attributes.

C. 'Evigsy151'^PBR TUMAINI™ is part of the Hope Series of the Evison Clematis Nursery. The series was launched in 2023 with C. 'Evigsy151'^PBR TUMAINI™ being the first one dedicated to a cause. The name recognizes the 20 years of charitable work undertaken by The Tumaini Fund, a Guernsey-based charity. This fund, founded by Dr. Susan Wilson, supports up to 100,000 orphans in Tanzania and provides fresh water wells in many villages there. The word Tumaini means Hope in Swahili.
